ARTEMADRID / Association

The Art Galleries Association Arte_Madrid was founded in 2000 and currently brings together 48 contemporary art galleries mainly based in four of the city's districts: Barrio de Salamanca, Plaza de las Salesas, Barrio de las Letras and Lavapiés. Member galleries take part regularly in some of the most prestigious international contemporary art fairs, such as Art Basel, ARCOmadrid, Frieze, The Armory Show, FIAC, Zona MACO, artBO, sp-art, SP-Art, Art Cologne or Artissima.

The Arte_Madrid galleries carry out an intense work as intermediary agents in the creation of contemporary culture, in the field of plastic arts. They manage the career of the artists they represent, produce their work and safeguard the memory of their contribution to the history of contemporary art. Its exhibition program is open to all types of visitors and the exhibitions can be visited at no cost to the public.

Throughout the year Arte_Madrid mobilizes the public by publishing an art map distributed throughout the city with the programme of private and public art spaces.

Since 2009, Arte_Madrid organizes the referent event of the beginning of the season: Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend. In 2019 Apertura celebrated its 10th edition.
